Many of my middle school students are working on becoming fluent with their math facts 1-20.
We are beginning with addition facts 1-20
Then, we will move on to subtraction facts 1-20
Another group is working on becoming fluent with their multiplication facts 0-12.
Once this group masters their facts, they will move on to division
Becoming fluent is more than just knowing how to add and subtract. Fluency relates to how many facts a student can master within a certain time frame. Fluency encourages the memorization of a variety of math facts using mental math. We are using the following strategies to build our mental fluency:
